Sorry Al Gore. It looks like Global Warming's 30-year run is coming to an end. The inconvenient truth is that the planet is not in peril.
A hacker has released emails from scientists at University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (aka Hadley CRU) showing that climate models have been manipulated and
contrary data from scientists has actively been suppressed.
As we at AFP suspected all along, it looks like the whole thing has been a 30-year hoax and a "redistributive change" leftist money grab. It is a fraud, it has always been a fraud, and the scientists and politicians who continue to perpetrate this fraud are cheap political grifters.
Al Gore said the science was settled...for who? Gore's made out like a bandit becoming the first climate change billionaire.
Our Fraudinator-in-Chief said he wanted to 'restore science to its rightful place'...what he really wanted was to have the "settled science" in his back pocket.
The Cap and Trade bill, now stalled in the Senate, is nothing more than a perverse nanny-state scheme to explode energy costs and separate you from your money and your property:
Barack Obama from a January 2008 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle:
"You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know — Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers."
Obama's energy czar, Carol Browner is a communist and a fraud. She is a member of the Commission for a Sustainable World Society (CSWS), which is a formal organ of the Socialist International. Socialist International is the umbrella group for many of the world's social democratic political parties such as Britain's Labor Party, says it supports socialism and is harshly critical of U.S. policies.
CSWS says the industrialized world must reduce its energy consumption and commit to punitive and internationally enforcable limits on "greenhouse gas" emissions. CSWS is quite candid about the economic costs it is willing to impose to realize its environmental utpoia. On Sept. 5-6, 2008, CSWS noted that its proposals would cost hundreds of billions (naturally) and it called for a "redesign of the international rules on intellectual property." At the Congress of the Socialist International of June 30-July 2, 2008 CSWS also called for the imposition of international environmental taxes admitting that "market solutions alone are insufficient and will not provide the financial support and resources necessary to achieve the required combination of deep emission reduction, adaptation to already changing climate conditions, energy security and equitable and environmentally sound economic development."
John Holdren, Obama's Science Czar, after sounding the alarm about global cooling and overpopulation in the 1970's, wrote a book in 1979 called EcoScience that called for
a comprehensive Planetary Regime that would control the development, administration, conservation, and distribution of all natural resources, renewable or nonrenewable. Like all leftists Holdren is also big on wealth redistribution, but on a global scale. The Saul Alinsky and Cloward-Piven models on steroids.
Holdren says the "de-development of overdeveloped countries...should be given top priority" and such nations -- e.g., the United States and the developed West -- should "divert their excess productivity into helping the poorer people of the world rather than exploiting them."
Holdren's Planetary Regime would be empowered to confiscate "20 percent of their GNPs for ten or fifteen years to the task of population control and development of the poor countries."
These proposals are nothing less than theft, i.e., calls for redistribution of your property and wealth.
In December 2009 the United Nations Climate Change Conference opens in Copenhagen. Its purpose is (or was) clear: to establish a successor to the Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012. Obama's global vision was going to come to fruition in Copenhagen where the world would unite (except for China and India of course) and implement the first steps towards a UN supervised global government empowered to oversee energy use...specifically America's energy use.
British PM Gordon Brown declared that Copenhagen must "forge a new international agreement ... [which] must contain the full range of commitments required: on emissions reductions by both developed and developing countries, on finance and on verification".
Under Kyoto, all the developed nations that ratified the treaty (all, in practice, except the US) agreed to cut their carbon emissions to 5 per cent below 1990 levels by 2012. The successor treaty, to be agreed at Copenhagen, was intended to secure a cut in global emissions, from the developed and developing world alike (and China has now overtaken even the US), of 50 per cent below 1990 levels by 2050, leading to more or less total decarbonisation by the end of the century.
Copenhagen is payback for the U.S. not signing Kyoto. But all of that may be coming apart as well. The delegates will probably spend their time agreeing to meet again in the future. Too bad Barack.
Former Margaret Thatcher Energy Advisor Lord Monckton recently spoke on this disastrous and treasonous treaty:
Last week an apparent hacker obtained access to the Hadley CRU computers and published part of their internal e-mail traffic. And the CRU has "conceded" that the at least some of the published e-mails are genuine.
What appears to have been revealed is that:
Conspiracy and collusion: the scientists have been manipulating and exaggerating the raw temperature figures to show a relentlessly rising global warming trend;
CRU scientists have engaged in possible illegal destruction of embarrassing information
they have consistently refused outsiders access to the raw data;
the scientists have been trying to avoid freedom of information requests
CRU scientists have engaged in organized resistance to disclosure: they have been discussing ways to prevent papers by dissenting scientists being published in learned journals.
The Herald UK's Andrew Bolt is following the story..."So the 1079 emails and 72 documents seem indeed evidence of a scandal involving most of the most prominent scientists pushing the man-made warming theory - a scandal that is one of the greatest in modern science. This is clearly not the work of some hacker, but of an insider who's now blown the whistle."
Meanwhile here are some excerpts of his report and the emails;
Warmist conspiracy exposed?
by Andrew Bolt
Friday, November 20, 2009
The director of Britain's leading Climate Research Unit, Phil Jones, has told Investigate magazine's TGIF Edition tonight ..."It was a hacker. We were aware of this about three or four days ago that someone had hacked into our system and taken and copied loads of data files and emails."…
TGIF asked Jones about the controversial email discussing "hiding the decline", and Jones explained what he was trying to say….
So the 1079 emails and 72 documents seem indeed evidence of a scandal involving most of the most prominent scientists pushing the man-made warming theory - a scandal that is one of the greatest in modern science. I've been adding some of the most astonishing in updates below - emails suggesting conspiracy, collusion in exaggerating warming data, possibly illegal destruction of embarrassing information, organised resistance to disclosure, manipulation of data, private admissions of flaws in their public claims and much more. If it is as it now seems, never again will "peer review" be used to shout down sceptics.
This is clearly not the work of some hacker, but of an insider who's now blown the whistle.
Earlier today, CRU cancelled all existing passwords. Actions speaking loudly.
Ethics alert! (my bolding - and I've update this post with the full alleged email, now):

Dear Ray, Mike and Malcolm,
Once Tim's got a diagram here we'll send that either later today or first thing tomorrow.
I've just completed Mike's Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from 1961 for Keith's to hide the decline. Mike's series got the annual land and marine values while the other two got April-Sept for NH land N of 20N. The latter two are real for 1999, while the estimate for 1999 for NH combined is +0.44C wrt 61-90. The Global estimate for 1999 with data through Oct is +0.35C cf. 0.57 for 1998.
Thanks for the comments, Ray.
Cheers

Surely these emails can’t be genuine. Surely the world’s most prominent alarmist scientists aren’t secretly exchanging emails like this, admitting privately they can’t find the warming they’ve been so loudly predicting?:

Hi all
Well I have my own article on where the heck is global warming ? We are asking that here in Boulder where we have broken records the past two days for the coldest days on record. We had 4 inches of snow. The high the last 2 days was below 30F and the normal is 69F, and it smashed the previous records for these days by 10F. The low was about 18F and also a record low, well below the previous record low.
This is January weather (see the Rockies baseball playoff game was canceled on saturday and then played last night in below freezing weather).
Trenberth, K. E., 2009: An imperative for climate change planning: tracking Earth's global energy. Current Opinion in Environmental Sustainability, 1, 19-27, doi:10.1016/j.cosust.2009.06.001. [1][PDF] (A PDF of the published version can be obtained from the author.)
The fact is that we can't account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can't. The CERES data published in the August BAMS 09 supplement on 2008 shows there should be even more warming: but the data are surely wrong. Our observing system is inadequate.Mopping up any awkward evidence about the IPCC’s latest report before Climate Audit gets hold of it?

Mike,
Can you delete any emails you may have had with Keith re AR4?
Keith will do likewise. He’s not in at the moment – minor family crisis.
Can you also email Gene and get him to do the same? I don’t have his new email address.
We will be getting Caspar to do likewise.
I see that CA claim they discovered the 1945 problem in the Nature paper!!

This, if true (caution!), is especially sick. (Note; John Daly was a Tasmanian sceptic who did superb work, especially on sea level rises on the “Isle of the Dead"). I’ve added the boldening):

Mike,
In an odd way this is cheering news! One other thing about the CC paper – just found another email – is that McKittrick says it is standard practice in Econometrics journals to give all the data and codes !! According to legal advice IPR overrides this.

How to minimise data to exaggerate a warming trend (bold added):

Phil,
Here are some speculations on correcting SSTs to partly explain the 1940s warming blip. If you look at the attached plot you will see that theland also shows the 1940s blip (as I’m sure you know).
So, if we could reduce the ocean blip by, say, 0.15 degC, then this would be significant for the global mean – but we’d still have to explain the land blip. I’ve chosen 0.15 here deliberately. This still leaves an ocean blip, and i think one needs to have some form of ocean blip to explain the land blip (via either some common forcing, or ocean forcing land, or vice versa, or all of these). When you look at other blips, the land blips are 1.5 to 2 times (roughly) the ocean blips—higher sensitivity plus thermal inertia effects. My 0.15 adjustment leaves things consistent with this, so you can see where I am coming from.
Removing ENSO does not affect this.
It would be good to remove at least part of the 1940s blip, but we are still left with “why the blip”.
Let me go further. If you look at NH vs SH and the aerosol effect (qualitatively or with MAGICC) then with a reduced ocean blip we get continuous warming in the SH, and a cooling in the NH—just as one would expect with mainly NH aerosols.
The other interesting thing is (as Foukal et al. note – from MAGICC) that the 1910-40 warming cannot be solar. The Sun can get at most 10% of this with Wang et al solar, less with Foukal solar. So this may well be NADW, as Sarah and I noted in 1987 (and also Schlesinger later). A reduced SST blip in the 1940s makes the 1910-40 warming larger than the SH (which it currently is not)—but not really enough.
So ... why was the SH so cold around 1910? Another SST problem? (SH/NH data also attached.)
This stuff is in a report I am writing for EPRI, so I’d appreciate any comments you (and Ben) might have.
Tom.
Phil Jones and Michael Mann are the chief junk science perpetrators here.
Professor Mann, director of Pennsylvania State University's Earth System Science Center and a regular contributor to the popular climate science blog Real Climate responded in the usual "the game is up" mode: "I'm simply not going to comment on the content of illegally obtained emails. However, I will say this: both their theft and, I believe, any reproduction of the emails that were obtained on public websites, etc, constitutes serious criminal activity. I'm hoping that the perpetrators and their facilitators will be tracked down and prosecuted to the fullest extent the law allows."
Blah blah blah.
As always the Wall Street journal is more erudite in it's approach:
The two MMs have been after the CRU station data for years. If they ever hear there is a Freedom of Information Act now in the U.K., I think I'll delete the file rather than send to anyone. . . . We also have a data protection act, which I will hide behind."
So apparently wrote Phil Jones, director of the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (CRU) and one of the world's leading climate scientists, in a 2005 email to "Mike." Judging by the email thread, this refers to Michael Mann, director of the Pennsylvania State University's Earth System Science Center. We found this nugget among the more than 3,000 emails and documents released last week after CRU's servers were hacked and messages among some of the world's most influential climatologists were published on the Internet.
The "two MMs" are almost certainly Stephen McIntyre and Ross McKitrick, two Canadians who have devoted years to seeking the raw data and codes used in climate graphs and models, then fact-checking the published conclusions-a painstaking task that strikes us as a public and scientific service. Mr. Jones did not return requests for comment and the university said it could not confirm that all the emails were authentic, though it acknowledged its servers were hacked.
Yet even a partial review of the emails is highly illuminating. In them, scientists appear to urge each other to present a "unified" view on the theory of man-made climate change while discussing the importance of the "common cause"; to advise each other on how to smooth over data so as not to compromise the favored hypothesis; to discuss ways to keep opposing views out of leading journals; and to give tips on how to "hide the decline" of temperature in certain inconvenient data.
Some of those mentioned in the emails have responded to our requests for comment by saying they must first chat with their lawyers. Others have offered legal threats and personal invective. Still others have said nothing at all. Those who have responded have insisted that the emails reveal nothing more than trivial data discrepancies and procedural debates.
Yet all of these nonresponses manage to underscore what may be the most revealing truth: That these scientists feel the public doesn't have a right to know the basis for their climate-change predictions, even as their governments prepare staggeringly expensive legislation in response to them.
Consider the following note that appears to have been sent by Mr. Jones to Mr. Mann in May 2008: "Mike, Can you delete any emails you may have had with Keith re AR4? Keith will do likewise. . . . Can you also email Gene and get him to do the same?" AR4 is shorthand for the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change's (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report, presented in 2007 as the consensus view on how bad man-made climate change has supposedly become.
In another email that seems to have been sent in September 2007 to Eugene Wahl of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Paleoclimatology Program and to Caspar Ammann of the National Center for Atmospheric Research's Climate and Global Dynamics Division, Mr. Jones writes: "[T]ry and change the Received date! Don't give those skeptics something to amuse themselves with."
When deleting, doctoring or withholding information didn't work, Mr. Jones suggested an alternative in an August 2008 email to Gavin Schmidt of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, copied to Mr. Mann. "The FOI [Freedom of Information] line we're all using is this," he wrote. "IPCC is exempt from any countries FOI-the skeptics have been told this. Even though we . . . possibly hold relevant info the IPCC is not part of our remit (mission statement, aims etc) therefore we don't have an obligation to pass it on."
It also seems Mr. Mann and his friends weren't averse to blacklisting scientists who disputed some of their contentions, or journals that published their work. "I think we have to stop considering 'Climate Research' as a legitimate peer-reviewed journal," goes one email, apparently written by Mr. Mann to several recipients in March 2003. "Perhaps we should encourage our colleagues in the climate research community to no longer submit to, or cite papers in, this journal."
Mr. Mann's main beef was that the journal had published several articles challenging aspects of the anthropogenic theory of global warming.
For the record, when we've asked Mr. Mann in the past about the charge that he and his colleagues suppress opposing views, he has said he "won't dignify that question with a response." Regarding our most recent queries about the hacked emails, he says he "did not manipulate any data in any conceivable way," but he otherwise refuses to answer specific questions. For the record, too, our purpose isn't to gainsay the probity of Mr. Mann's work, much less his right to remain silent.
However, we do now have hundreds of emails that give every appearance of testifying to concerted and coordinated efforts by leading climatologists to fit the data to their conclusions while attempting to silence and discredit their critics. In the department of inconvenient truths, this one surely deserves a closer look by the media, the U.S. Congress and other investigative bodies.
